The BU6939FV-E2 is a special purpose audio amplifier IC for vehicle audio application manufactured by Renesas Electronics Corp. It is designed for car audio systems and amplifies stereo using a power driver amplifier on the output terminal. It can operate in different configurations and is capable of output of 18W + 18W into 4Ω.The BU6939FV-E2 is an integrated vehicle audio amplifier IC composed of two transistor output stages and two driver amplifier stages. The driver amplifiers output signals of high enough level Do drive the speakers to its rated power level. The output stage can be operated in single-ended or bridge configurations. The thermal protection circuit prevents damage in the event of a short-circuiting of the load or over temperature by temporarily disconnecting output terminals.This IC has a total of 16 pins and it is packaged in a low profile SIP-8 package that has a dimension of 16.9 x 8.0 x 4.7 mm. The loading capacitance of the audio output transformer used should be 8µF and the maximum supply voltage is 14.4V. The features of this IC include low distortion, high output current and low quiescent current drain. This IC provides advanced protection functions by using a Thermal Shut Down (TSD) circuit and an Over-Current Protection (OCP) circuit. The TSD circuit will shut down the output stages and their drivers with a single push of a key to protect IC components from overheating. The OCP circuit will shut down the output stages if the current drawn by the output stage exceeds a certain value.The operating temperature range of this IC is -40℃ to 85℃ and the operating frequency range is 20 Hz to 20 KHz. The audio external components for the IC include a filter capacitor, an audio control amplifier, an audio output transformer and an external resistor or capacitor. The filter capacitor is connected between the power (VCC) and ground (GND) pins and helps filter out noise from the power supplies. The audio control amplifier is placed between the Audio Input (IN) pin and ground and is used to adjust the audio level at the input. The audio output transformer is placed between the output (OUT) pins and ground, and it is used to match the global characteristics of the speakers and to provide impedance matching. Finally, the external resistor or capacitor is placed between the mute pin and the supply voltage to provide mute control.In summary, the BU6939FV-E2 is suitable for car audio application as it provides low distortion, high output current and low quiescent current drain features.
