BU7255HFV-TR is an instrumentation amplifier from the Linear Amplifiers series of products. It is a low-power, offset-null amplifier with an input offset voltage that can be adjusted through an external voltage. It has excellent temperature performance, wide bandwidth, high common-mode rejection ratio and outstanding low noise characteristics. It is suitable for use in applications such as signal conditioning, processing and automation.

Working Principle

The BU7255HFV-TR is a three-stage, four-transistor instrumentation amplifier. The first stage is an input stage with a common-mode feedback configuration. The second stage is an emitter-follower output stage which has low output impedance and is capable of driving large capacitive loads at high speed. The third stage is an offset-nulling stage which uses a biased transistor to reduce the input offset voltage to the required level.

The key working principle of the BU7255HFV-TR is the common-mode feedback configuration which increases the input common-mode voltage range from ground to the supply voltage as well as reduce the input offset voltage of the amplifier. This is achieved by applying a signal to the non-inverting input and feedback the signal from the output terminal to the inverting input. This feedback signal counteracts any signal applied at the input and therefore cancels out the input offset voltage.

In the offset-nulling stage, the input offset voltage is reduced by the operating bias voltage that is connected to the third stage transistor. This drastically lowers the input offset voltage. This stage also increases the amplifier’s temperature performance by controlling the amount of temperature drift at the input offset voltage.

Applications

Due to its excellent performance characteristics, the BU7255HFV-TR can be used for a variety of applications. These include signal conditioning, controlling and processing, industrial automation, audio and telecommunications equipment, ultrasound systems, point-of-care diagnostic instruments and medical imaging systems.
