Working Principle

The BYT30PI-1000 series single-phase bridge rectifiers are composed of four diodes connected in series so that the input voltage and current direction can alternate. The four diodes form a bridge when arranged into a closed circuit where they control the direction of the current flow. During each cycle, the bridge is composed of two positive ions and two negative ions whose current directions are reversed by the bridge.

When the alternator delivers an AC voltage at the primary terminal of the single-phase bridge rectifier, the current flow in one diode and not in the other, thereby making the connection of the two diodes connected in series by the top of the rectifier form a closed circuit, and the remaining two diodes do the same. The current in these two diodes flows in opposite directions and thus the bridge makes the output of the rectifier DC voltage through the reversed half cycle of the AC voltage.

The circuit can prevent the current from becoming too large during the forward voltage phase, which can cause damage, and also prevents too much current in the opposite phase.
