BZX55A27-TAP is a high-performance low power consumption surface mount Zenor diode which is able to provide voltage regulation when used in power circuit. The device has a wide operating temperature range, from -65°C to +150°C, making it suitable for a variety of industrial applications, such as frequency detector, temperature protection and voltage Regulation system. In communication systems, BZX55A27-TAP can be used to monitor and protect the safety of the equipment. Its good Electrical Insulation properties also make it ideal for wave-type rectification circuit.Working Principle
BZX55A27-TAP works on the same principle as other Zener diodes. It has a PN junction which is capable of conducting current in both directions, but the conducting current mainly flows from P region to N region. When a voltage is applied, the conducting current is limited to a certain level, known as the Zener or Breakdown Voltage. The BZX55A27-TAP is rated for a Zener voltage of 27V.When the voltage across the PN junction reaches the rated level, the breakdown voltage is reached and current begins to flow in both directions, causing the device to heat up due to the resistance of the material used. This heat can damage the device if it reaches a certain level. To avoid this, the BZX55A27-TAP is designed with a thermal protection mechanism to prevent the circuit from overheating.When the PN junction reaches the Zener voltage, a large number of charge carriers are generated in the N region, resulting in an avalanche breakdown of the junction which causes the current to increase rapidly. This high current is limited by the current limiting resistors which are connected in series with the device. The current limiting resistors of the BZX55A27-TAP are designed to limit the current to a safe and consistent level, thus preventing the avalanche breakdown from causing any damage and ensuring safe operation.Conclusion
