C10M1 fuses also have a high-excess current rating, meaning they can handle up to several hundred times the rated current without being damaged.
Working Principle of C10M1 Fuses
C10M1 fuses work by providing a path for the high current to flow in a way that avoids permanent deformations in the wiring or surrounding components. When a current higher than the rated current flows, a hard-film, high melting point material deposited on the C10M1 fusemelts, creating an extremely low-impedance connection between the two ends of the fuse. This low-impedance connection is maintained as long as the excessive current is present, and will start to thermalize the wire when the current is removed.The current-carrying layer of the C10M1 fuse is designed in such a way that any excessive current will cause it to fail in one direction only. This ensures the fuse blows in the excess current direction, containing the fault. The current needs to be either below the rated current or high enough to blow the fuse, otherwise the fault can create a low-impedance path that can potentially cause severe damage to the circuit.
