Thyristors - SCRs

A thyristor is a type of solid-state semiconductor device with four layers of alternating N and P-type materials. It acts exclusively as a switch, conducting current in only one direction. The four layers are commonly referred to as Anode, Cathode, Gate, and Body. The Anode and Cathode materials meet at a junction point and the Gate controls the flow of current through the junction. The SCR, or Silicon Controlled Rectifier, is a specific type of thyristor.

The C45H is a type of SCR that has its Anode and Cathode separated from each other. It is a low-power SCR that employs a Silicon-Germanium alloy as the active layer. This SCR is mainly used for switching operations in low-voltage applications, such as DC motors and lighting control.

The C45H’s working principle is based on the formation of a potential barrier between the Anode and Cathode when it is forward biased. This creates an electrically neutral region called a “space charge” that prevents the flow of electron current between them. It is also used for alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) rectification in industrial DC motor control, switching circuits, and lighting control. Additionally, it can be used in transient protection and power line switchgear.
