Thyristors are a type of semi-conductor device, which are basically responsible for voltage and current control. Of the thyristors, silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) are the most popular and widely used device in the field of application. SCRs are a form of rectifier which are capable of withstanding and controlling very high levels of voltage and current. The main application of SCRs is for voltage control and in-rush current limiting. In industries, large capacitor banks are used to maintain a steady DC voltage level, and SCRs ensure the safety during the charging process. The basic working principle of a Silicon-controlled rectifier is based on two thyristors connected in series, also known as a two-thyristor switch or a C46N device.
