CA3240EZ Application Field and Working Principle

Working Principle

The CA3240EZ has two independent internal sets of bipolar transistors of complementary operation in a single package. Its amplification is achieved by applying a positive voltage to the non inverting input of the op amp and a negative voltage to the inverting input. When the inputs are equal electrons will flow from the non inverting input to the inverting input, this produces an output voltage proportional to the difference of the two input signals.

The main circuit gain of the CA3240EZ is determined by the ratio of the external resistors between the output and non inverting input and between the non inverting input and ground. This device has an external compensation network composed of one capacitor (C1) and one resistor (R2). This compensation network helps to reduce total distortion, reduce any additional phase lag and stabilizes the performance of the IC. This IC also has an output current limit feature which prevents the output voltage from exceeding the supply voltage.
