CAT93C66YI-G is a Serial Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) which adopt 8-pin DFN package. The memory cell inside CAT93C66YI-G is constructed with E2CMOS technology. Working Principle
The CAT93C66YI-G operates on the principle of Serial Access. This means that it provides the user with a serial-access method of Reading, Writing and Erasing data from the chip. It consists of three separate serial lines, namely, /CS (Chip Select), SCK (Serial Clock) and SI (Serial In), along with an SO (Serial Out) line. The data can be written to and read from the chip in a byte-wise or page-wise operation. For writing data, the user first generates a write enable signal by setting the /CS (Chip Select) line low, followed by the generation of successive write enable pulses on the SCK (Serial Clock) line. This activates the internal write circuitry, enabling the writing of data. To write data, the user first has to enter the data on the SI (Serial In) line and then transfer the data to the specified memory location by generating the write enable pulse on SCK line.
When reading data from the CAT93C66YI-G, the user first has to set the /CS (Chip Select) line low and then generate successive read enable pulses on the SCK (Serial Clock) line. This activates the internal read circuitry and data is transferred to the SO (Serial Out) line, starting from the last address programmed. The data can also be read or written in page mode. In page mode, the user has to address the location to be written and the data to be written on the SI (Serial In) line and then generate a write enable signal on the SCK line. This enables writing of the data stored in the page memory. Similarly, for reading in page mode, the user has to address the location to be read and generate read enable pulses on the SCK line.
The CAT93C66YI-G also provides protection of its contents from accidental erasure and modification. This is done by setting the appropriate write protect and write inhibit modes. When write protect mode is activated, no single bit of the data stored in the chip can be changed, unless the write protect bit is first disabled by use of the WRITE ENABLE signal. Likewise, when write inhibit mode is activated, no data can be written to the chip, even when the WRITE ENABLE signal is set.
