CD4015BMT is an advanced, 4-bit Static Shift Register with Parallel I/O. It is designed using advanced CMOS technology and is designed to be used in the widest range of analog and digital applications.

The register consists of four parallel data-in lines, four parallel data-out lines, and 8 clock inputs, controlled by a simple Mode Logic Control circuit. In addition, four further clock inputs are used for diagnostic and testing purposes. The functionality of the register is determined by the two Mode Logic Control signals supplied to it.

Working Principle

The CD4015BMT features an advanced 8-way clock architecture. This advanced clock architecture is designed to allow the CD4015BMT to operate asynchronously with high periodicity. The clock inputs are used to control the data flow both in and out of the register. The logic circuitry of the register is designed to allow the register to be operated in either synchronous or non-synchronous mode.

In synchronous mode, the signal on the Clock inputs is used to control the data transferring into or out of the register. In non-synchronous mode, the signal at the clock inputs follows the same pattern, but the final control of the data signal is dependent on the signal applied to the Mode Logic Control input.

The first 7 clock pulses in the Synchronous mode are used for the transfer of 4 bits of data from the register. When the 8th clock pulse arrives, the data is transferred from and to the register. This process is repeated for the next 4 cycles.

In the Non-Synchronous mode, all 8 clock pulses are used for data transfer. This mode is particularly efficient in cases where the data rate is very high, and the data transfer needs to be completed in a shorter period of time.
