Shift registers are devices in digital logic circuit technology which transfer binary data in the form of a serial bit stream, to a parallel array or the converse. The CD4034BNSR is a 8-Bit Shift/Storage Register from Texas Instruments, a type of logic semiconductor used for data storage and manipulation. It can be used in different kinds of process control devices, AV applications, and communications systems.
The CD4034BNSR is a synchronous, parallel loading, serial shift-right register, with a clock pulse operated by variations in the clock frequency. The holding flip-flop is used to save the data until another operation is performed. The device contains one master reset input and two serial data inputs (QDataIn and PDataIn). To load data into the register, the data sheet suggests that the PDataIn and QDataIn lines be paralleled and one data bit loaded into both lines simultaneously.
When the clock input rises to a high level, the data is shifted right initially to the right-most flip-flop, stage 0. The rightmost bit of the register is shifted out through the most significant bit data output (MSB Qdout) pin, and a new bit (zero) can be added from the Input (QDataIn). The eight clock pulses sent to the clock input move the data to the second flip-flop, stage 1. This process is repeated until the predetermined eight clock pulses are sent and the data is shifted out of the register. The data can be reset to 0 by making the reset pin low.
