CD4046BCM is an application used to generate, control and regulate clock and timing signals from an external oscillator source. It is primarily used for clocking applications in various electronic and electrical components such as digital systems, wireless applications, temperature controllers and other control systems. Moreover, it is also used for analogue PDAs, home entertainment systems and in industrial equipment. This application field was specially designed by Texas Instruments to improve the data processing and performance of electronic products. The CD4046BCM is a low-power Monolithic CMOS device that features four unique operating modes, which are the Standard, Square-wave generator, Low-power, and Freeze modes. The Standard mode is the default operating mode, which provides an accurate frequency synthesis. The Square-wave generator, on the other hand, is used to generate a frequency-divided square wave output with adjustable duty cycle and frequency. The Low-power and Freeze modes extend the battery life of the PLLs by reducing the current consumption while maintaining the current frequency.The CD4046BCM is designed to enable frequency synthesizers to efficiently generate their operating frequencies and other signals with high accuracy and stability. The device is equipped with a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that uses a high-quality analog phase shift design, allowing it to accurately generate frequency and modulation signals. The VCO uses a high-gain, high-resolution comparator to provide outstanding performance and stability when generating frequency signals. Additionally, the CD4046BCM also features internal Programmable Logic Array (PLA) and Exclusive OR (XOR) gates for more control of the frequencies and waveforms generated by the device. The clock generator of the CD4046BCM utilizes an external oscillator that can be a clock, crystal or LC oscillator. It provides better resolution and accuracy compared to a PLL clock generator because it generates its own frequency with the supplied oscillator and synchronization logic. Additionally, unlike PLLs, the external oscillator can also be used as a frequency reference.
