The CD4050BCSJ is a part of the 4000 series CMOS logic, a range of CMOS logic Ic chips manufactured by Texas Instruments. This device is a hex non-inverting buffer/converter, with Schmitt-Trigger input and open-drain outputs. It is suitable for interfacing two voltage ranges, usually a 5V range, with all the inputs connected to one voltage domain and the outputs connected to a second, higher or lower, potential level. In other words, it connects or interfaces two voltage domains.

The application fields of the CD4050BCSJ are many and varied, but most common are in digital logic circuits and in digital-to-analog (D/A) or analog-to-digital (A/D) conversions. For example, in digital logic circuits it can be used to buffer discrete logic ICs and interface logic voltage levels from one domain to another.
