CD4528BCN is a high-performance monolithic dual CMOS timer. It is composed of two complementary-symmetry oscillators. This device is primarily used as a dual one-shot/multivibrator with independently adjustable width and symmetry. The circuits are triggered by two independent external inputs, and output pulse widths and symmetry of one-shots are adjustable by two timing resistors. It can also be used as an oscillator with manual reset.

The same capacitor is connected to both output nodes, so that when the switching voltage applied to one of the inputs is low, current flows to one node, and the voltage at this node decreases. When it is high, the current flows to the other node, and the voltage of this node rises. The two nodes are complementary, so the voltage at both nodes varies alternately.
The output waveform of CD4528BCN is determined by the external resistance connected to the input nodes. If the external resistance is low, the waveform is rectangular; if it is high, the waveform is triangular. The symmetry between rising and falling edges can be adjusted by adjusting the external resistance value. By using a potentiometer, the pulse width of the output waveform can also be adjusted. The circuit can be used as a one-shot by triggering one of the inputs with a pulse.
