CD4556BE is a low power integrated circuit fabricated in a bipolar process. It is used in variety of logic and signal switching applications, multiplexers, decoders and converters. It is available in 8 pin DIP, 16 pin SOIC, and 16 pin SOL packages.

The CD4556BE can be used in a variety of applications such as in switching systems, digital logic, data transmission, multiplexing, decoding, and demultiplexing.

The CD4556BE is designed to operate with a power supply voltage range of 2.7V to 15V. It can transmit data signals at speeds up to 10MHz when the power supply voltage is greater than +5V.

The CD4556BE includes three identical 2-input multiplexers with inhibit (E). Each 2-input multiplexer uses one of the inputs (S) as its select input and one of the remaining inputs (C) as its complement. The active low (E) input is used to disable/enable the output.

The CD4556BE has two 2-to-4 line decoders, each with an active high enable (E) input. The select (A - B) inputs are decoded to activate one of the four corresponding outputs (Y), when the enable (E) is logic high. When the enable (E) input is logic low, the outputs remain in their low state.

The CD4556BE also offers an 8-bit latch with an active low enable (E) input. The latch input is clocked by a rising edge of the latch clock (L) input and will store an 8-bit word. The latch can be enabled/disabled by the active low (E) input. When the enable (E) is logic low, the latch remains in its last state.

The CD4556BE provides a set of three inverting and non-inverting buffer/drivers with 3-state outputs (Q). The output drivers can be enabled by their corresponding active low (E) inputs. With the (E) inputs high, the outputs are TRI-STATE and no matter what the logic level at the input, the outputs will be OFF. With the (E) inputs low, the outputs will present the logic level at their inputs.

The CD4556BE also includes a set of three comparators, one active low (E) controlling them all at once. The comparators have analog inputs (A) and a reference voltage (V) that can be adjusted to compare the two input voltages (A, V). An output (OUT) indicates which of the two inputs is larger. They operate from 1.8V to 6V and their speed can be adjusted with the hysteresis control pin (HYS).
