Logic - Flip Flops

CD 74HC374MG4 is a monolithic integrated logic circuit belonging to the basic logic family and it belongs to the general flip-flop element subclass. It is mainly used in the digital electronic system to realize the on-off (toggle) conditions and data storage functions. It can be used in synchronous and asynchronous two situations.

This element belongs to the positive edge-triggered flip-flop type. Its internal structure is made of two master-slave flip-flop type flip-flops connected in series in static operation. Each flip-flop has a D type latch, a complementary latch, and a control section. The data signal enters the master-slave flip-flop through the D input terminal in the form of a pulse, and the data is stored and retained. On the other hand, the circuit is suitable for the applications in which several pulsed signals have to be time-division limited.

Working Principle of CD74HC374MG4

CD74HC374MG4 is an edge-triggered static flip-flop which means that the pulse signal needs to be applied to its D input terminal logic state will change. When its D input logic state changes, the logic state at its Q output terminal will also change. The master-slave flip-flop of the circuit synchronously exchanges its internal logic states with each other, thus forming the stable storage function of the state of the pulse signal. The Q output state is opposite to the D input state whenever the clock triggers the flip-flop.

This flip-flop has two data input terminals and one clock input terminal. When the clock pulse is in the low level, the flip-flop will not be affected by the changing of input state and there will be no change in output. When the clock pulse is in the high or rising level, the state of the D input terminal can be transferred to the Q output terminal.

CD74HC374MG4 is an 8-bit static flip-flop, which means that it can store 8 bits of data. The 8 bit data is stored in 8 separate flip flops. The 8 bit data is divided into 4 bits, each bit is stored in a 4-bit latch. When the latch clock pulse is positive, the data at the data input terminal will be transferred to the output terminal.
