The CD74HCT245E is an 8-bit transceiver, of which the inputs and outputs are TTL compatible. It is used to transfer data between two buses which are using different signal levels, or between two systems which are using different system voltages. Furthermore, it can be used as a line driver for a system which is running at different signal levels or supply voltages.

The CD74HCT245E is from the HCT family of logic devices, and is usually available in two options: The CD74HCT245E and the CD74HCT245EQ. The two differ in the output current ratings; the CD74HCT245E has a rating of 24mA for high drive outputs, and the CD74HCT245EQ has a rating of 32mA for high drive outputs. The other important points regarding these two options are that the CD74HCT245E is available in both the commercial and industrial temperature ranges, while the CD74HCT245EQ is only available in the industrial temperature range.

The CD74HCT245E is basically a 3-state non-inverting buffer/driver.
