The CDC391DR is a clock buffer, a device used to amplify and/or distribute a clock signal. It is designed to operate in a variety of applications where precise timing and synchronized operation of multiple components is critical. The outputs of each buffer may be connected in parallel to increase current drive, or they may be connected in series to achieve greater drive capability.
At the heart of the CDC391DR is a low phase noise, high jitter-free frequency synthesizer. This synthesizer utilizes a phase-locked loop (PLL) circuit to generate a reference clock frequency which is accurately multiplied or divided by programmable frequency divider to generate the desired output, with maximum jitter and phase noise of 0.2ps, and an output frequency range of 4kHz to 300MHz. The synthesizer also utilizes an adjustable jitter filter for additional jitter reduction and improved system performance.
In addition to its clock output buffering and frequency synthesis, the CDC391DR has additional features for advanced system design. The device includes a reference crystal oscillator, a sequencer, various loop control logic, and a reset circuit. The sequencer is used to sequence charge pump operation, control loop parameters and clock synchronization, eliminating the need for external logic. The loop control logic provides the ability to lock multiple clock outputs to a single reference frequency with precise phase alignment. The reset circuit allows the output frequencies to be synchronized to a pre-determined level within 13.5ns.
The CDC391DR is a versatile device designed for a wide range of clock applications. It is especially useful in clock-and-data distribution applications where multiple synchronous outputs must be provided with exact phase and frequency relationships.
