The CDC5801DBQ is a clock generator module from Texas Instruments made for use in systems requiring clocks of a variety of frequencies, such as PCIe applications, telecommunications systems, and digital broadcasting.

The CDC5801DBQ is designed to be simple to use and reliable. It consists of a clock generator, three low-pass filters, a low-power high-speed driver, and a 4th order low-pass filter that meets the requirements of EN 300 440 and other regulatory bodies. The module provides both differential and single-ended LVDS clock output and differential LVDS clock input.

The CDC5801DBQ clock generator is based on a highly integrated PLL-based architecture which enables it to provide a wide range of frequencies, from 200 kHz up to 160 MHz. It is capable of operating in either free-running mode (self-contained) or in synchronization mode with an external reference clock. It also implements several monitoring, protection and diagnostic features.

The CDC5801DBQ can be used to generate a wide range of clock outputs for multiple applications, including PCIe, asynchronous and synchronous Ethernet, telecommunications, global navigation satellite systems and digital broadcasting. Its low-ripple output enables it to meet the stringent requirements of these applications.

The workinciple of the CDC5801DBQ is based on the use of a phase-locked loop circuit. Through this circuit, the CDC5801DBQ is able to create a stable output clock frequency from an external reference clock. The phase-locked loop circuit consists of a phase-detector, voltage controlled oscillator, amplifier and filter components, and a divider. The phase-detector receives the reference clock signal and compares it with the output of the VCO. Any discrepancy between the two signals is fed back to the VCO, and the process continues until the output signal is in phase with the reference clock. Once the two signals are synched, the VCO output frequency is maintained.

The CDC5801DBQ module also includes a loop filter which optimizes the loop performance of the PLL. The loop filter consists of a capacitive network and can be used to adjust the PLL’s gain, noise and spurious responses, its damping factor, and the output frequency range. The loop filter also provides noise immunity to sudden changes in the reference clock signal.

The CDC5801DBQ is designed to be easy to use and provides a reliable and stable output.
