The working principle of CG0402MLA-18KG is quite simple. Under normal conditions, the device forms a high impedance (open) high resistance path between its two terminals acting like an open circuit. The exact resistance depends on the impedance versus voltage characteristics established by the design and its related components. When the voltage across terminals is higher than the reverse voltage rating, the device will switch to a lower impedance (shorted) path that is capable of conducting large surge current. Consequently, this switch in the impedance path will reduce a sudden voltage overshoot or achieve its clamping action. At the same time, the device capability of deflecting surge current to ground will protecting the circuit and the interconnected components from damaging.
