Gas discharge tube (GDT) arresters, also known as spark gap devices, are electrical components that limit the voltage applied across their terminals to a safe level. The CG5150MS’s working principle is based on the electrical property of movs. MOVs have the ability to change their resistance when a voltage is applied, allowing them to limit the voltage and current passing through it. When the voltage exceeds the maximum operating voltage of the MOVs, the resistance suddenly drops, diverting the surge current away from the sensitive load. This is known as a “clamping” action, which effectively reduces the maximum voltage applied to the protected equipment. Additionally, the MOVs act as an absorptive capacitor, dissipating any residual voltage and current which may still pass through the MOVs.
