Gas Discharge Tube Arresters (GDT) are electronic devices consisting of a Gas Tube and Zinc Oxide (ZnO) blocks or surge arresters. The Gas Tube is a metal oxide dielectric material, while the Zinc Oxide block is an insulator designed to heat up or expand when exposed to a high electrical current or voltage. The Gas Tube is sealed in the device and has two electrodes, one on the inside and one on the outside. During a transient, the voltage sensing unit of the CG5350LS detects the surge, and a pulse transformer helps to spread the current flow in multiple paths of discharge.One side of the pulse transformer is connected to the equipment which the arrester is protecting, while the other side is connected to ground. The transformer side connected to the equipment senses any high voltage surge, which then causes the ZnO blocks in the transformer to heat up and expand. The current then travels through the Gas Tube and is released into the ground. This appropriate discharge of the current prevents the surge from destroying the equipment. The CG5350LS has a variety of other features which make it a great choice for GDT-protected equipment. It has a surge current rating of 100kA and a maximum discharge current of 40kA, meaning it can effectively handle large current spikes. Additionally, it has a high peak voltage limit of 8kV, and a peak power capacity of 1080W. It also has an advanced Protection Rating of IPX0, meaning it is safe for use in interior and exterior settings, and will cut off the current in a safe manner.Overall, the CG5350LS is an excellent choice for gas discharge tube arresters.
