It is designed to be installed between a protected device such as a motherboard and a communication line, such as a shielded Ethernet cable. The GDT within the CG590L-02 works by limiting the peak voltage on the line to a safe level. Any voltage higher than this level is absorbed by the GDT. The GDT is made up of two electrodes, an anode and a cathode, within a hermetically sealed glass or metal tube. When the peak voltage exceeds the rated voltage of the GDT, electrons are released from the cathode, creating an arc between the anode and cathode. This arc ionizes the gas within the GDT, creating a conductive path which diverts the current away from the protected device. When the transient event is over, the GDT resets, allowing normal operation to resume.The CG590L-02 provides reliable protection from ESD and EFT pulses, as well as pulses induced by lightning. It can handle up to 6 kV of ESD protection for shielded Ethernet cables, and up to 16kV of EFT protection for Ethernet power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. Additionally, it can provide up to 16kV of lightning pulse protection for twisted pair applications. In addition to providing overvoltage protection, the CG590L-02 can also help reduce EMI and reduce power loss. The built-in ESD suppression system helps reduce EMI radiation, and the improved power line decoupling reduces power loss. Overall, the CG590L-02 is an ideal solution for high-speed Ethernet applications, and its built-in protection features make it a reliable and effective device for protecting communication and power systems from the effects of lightning, surges, and other electrical transients.
