The CLS03 (T6L, CANO-O, Q) is a single-phase bridge rectifier with a reverse current blocking capability. This type of diode is often used in power supply circuits, such as SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supplies) and in some power conditioning applications. It is also used as a general purpose rectifier in electronic projects.
The CLS03 is constructed on a stud-type package and is constructed using metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) technology. The body of the device consists of four main part, the anode, the cathode, the collector, and the emitter. Its active area is used to block reverse currents and the internal structure is designed to provide the best possible thermal performance.
The anode and cathode of the device are connected to the collector and the emitter respectively. The three pins of the device are connected to the anode, cathode, and common terminal (which is also often also referred to as the midpoint terminal). When the reverse voltage is applied to the diode, the injected minority carriers will not be able to pass through the depletion region, therefore blocking the reverse current. Therefore, the CLS03 can also be used in pulse applications, power factor correction circuits and other applications where a reverse current blocking capability is required.
