Logic-Translators, Level Shifters are used in various purposes in the digital electronic world to convert voltage levels from one type to other and to transfer logic levels from one type to other with their circuit and logic designs. In the present article, we discuss one such application, The CLVCC4245AMPWREP (Advanced, Passive Level, Voltage Converter and Intelligent Pairwise Emitter-follower Repeater) which is a dual channel bi-directional logic translator and level shifter.

It is a compact and high performance device designed for 13V single supply, slow speed, and low power applications. It works for both unidirectional and bidirectional Emitter-follower circuit and consists of two EFE channels controlled by a control register comprising of two control bits and one clock input. The device is packaged in a space saving 4-mm × 3-mmDFN leadless package.

The CLVCC4245AMPWREP is mainly used in low voltage systems, such as in I/O buffers and logic translators. It has a wide range of applications, such as servo motor control; ultra low-power sensors; differential amplifiers; DC-DC converters; embedded system controllers; Ethernet switches, routers, and hubs; medical imaging; cell phone audio; network tuning; microprocessor reset and power management; and in many other low power microelectronic applications.

The CLVCC4245AMPWREP accepts a logic input from a logic gate such as an OR, NAND or XOR gate and takes the logic levels from one type to another, such as from 0V to 3.3V or from 3.3V to 5V. It can also accept slow speed differential signals of up to 13mVpp and translates them accurately and quickly. The device is designed for bidirectional communication between two different voltage systems and enables the transfer of low to high voltage in both directions, providing an overall efficient level shifting operation.

The CLVCC4245AMPWREP has two control bits and one clock input. The two control bits are used to control the logic input applied to each EFE channel while the clock input controls the logic output from each EFE channel. The control bits are used to set a default logic level, depending on whether the level shifter should be in unidirectional or bidirectional mode. If the control bits are set to 0, the device will be in unidirectional mode, allowing signals to be transferred from one voltage system to the other, but not the other way. If the control bits are set to 1, the device will be in bidirectional mode, allowing signals to be transferred from either voltage system to the other.

The CLVCC4245AMPWREP is designed to handle 13V signals with a current level of up to 10mA and a power dissipation of up to 10mW.
