Application Field

CMDZ43V TR is part of the Zener Diodes family and has a wide range of application fields. It  is mainly used as a protective device from Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and as a voltage regulator for voltage stabilization in professional industrial systems. This device is also used in automotive and consumer electronics as an EMI filter.

CMDZ43V TR provides excellent overvoltage protection, thanks to its high peak voltage rating of 43V and its low leakage current of less than 1uA. It also ensures RF noise suppression since it plays an important role in improving the performance of critical circuits by filtering high-frequency noise and attenuating unwanted signals. This device effectively minimizes system failure and provides a dependable and stable voltage under load.

The CMDZ43V TR is designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures from - 55°C to + 125° C, allowing its usage in wide range of environments. This device also features superior reliability and a long life expectancy. It is provided in a small DO-35 package making it ideal for space-sensitive applications.

Working Principle

CMDZ43V TR, representing a special type of diode, operates based on the principle of avalanche breakdown. In normal forward-bias operation, current flows from anode to cathode as the diode is forward biased. As the voltage is increased, the current rises exponentially until it reaches the maximum rated current of 10mA in the CMDZ43V TR. When the voltage reaches a certain value (breakdown voltage), known as the zener voltage that is characteristic of the diode, the current built up in the junction reaches the avalanche level and starts to spontaneously generate electrons and ions. The zener voltage remains constant as the current rises, and this value is the voltage at which the device operates, providing the voltage stabilization necessary for applications.

The CMDZ43V TR can also be used in reverse bias mode. In reverse bias, currents due to minority carriers, electrons and holes, flow from anode to cathode. When the reverse bias voltage reaches the zener voltage of the device, the flow of current across the device increases and the CMDZ43V TR operates as a protective device from ESD.
