Time-delay relays are electronic devices that when triggered, cause a programmed delay before switching on or off an external device. The CNS-35-76 is a type of time-delay relay manufactured by Phoenix Contact. Its applications and working principles are described below.
Applications of the CNS-35-76
The CNS-35-76 is commonly used in industrial automation, providing on-delay, off-delay, or repetition functions. As an on-delay relay, the device triggers an output circuit to switch on after a delay period. As an off-delay relay, power is switched off after a programmable delay. As a repetition relay, the output is turned on and off repeatedly.
The time-delay of the CNS-35-76 can be dialed from 0.1 to 999.9 seconds in single steps. The range of time can also be selected from 0.1 to 2, 10 to 120 and 1000 to 3600 seconds. This flexibility of the device makes it suitable for different industrial applications such as lighting control, material transport, process control, and safety systems.
Working Principle of the CNS-35-76
The CNS-35-76 is essentially an electromechanical timer with an adjustable delay period. The device has two operational modes, a Manual mode and an Automatic mode. In the Manual mode, the relay is triggered manually by a push button. In the Automatic mode, the relay is triggered electrically by a voltage applied to its input circuit. The relay measures the period of the voltage applied and sets its delay period accordingly.
The CNS-35-76 consists of two circuits, the Control Circuit and the Output Circuit. The Control Circuit contains the timing device and a set of contacts in the form of a relay. When voltage is applied to the Control Circuit, a timer starts and the relay energizes. The energized relay operates a set of contacts that supplies power to the Output Circuit and triggers the output device, such as a solenoid, motor, or light.
When the timer expires, the Control Circuit relay is de-energized and the contacts open, switching off the Output Circuit. This process repeats until the voltage is removed. The Control Circuit can also be disabled, preventing the Output Circuit from automatically switching on.
The CNS-35-76 is a versatile time-delay relay that can be used in a variety of industrial applications. Its adjustable time-delay, two operational modes, and two circuits make it a reliable and cost-effective option for controlling and synchronizing industrial processes.
