Optoisolators are devices used in electrical engineering applications, which employ light-sensitive elements, along with circuitry, to provide electrical insulation between two systems. CNY66 optoisolators belong to the transistor-photovoltaic output (TPO) class of optoisolators.

The light is then received by the phototransistor, which is connected to the power source via an external resistor, therefore allowing it to be turned on or off. When the light is received, it causes the phototransistor to be turned on; pushing the current from the power source into the protected circuit. When the LED is turned off, the phototransistor is also turned off, cutting the flow of current into the protected circuit. In this way, an isolated protection system is created for two systems that interact with each other.
The CNY66 optoisolator is capable of providing very high levels of isolation from the external environment, with values reaching as high as 14,000 Vrms. The operating frequencies can be as low as 1Hz - 750kHz, making them suitable for a wide variety of applications. The optoisolator is also extremely reliable and can be used in long-term and high-temperature operation. This makes the CNY66 optoisolator a very attractive option for industrial and commercial applications.
