Diodes - Bridge Rectifiers are devices in which series-connected diodes are operated to provide bi-directional flow of electric current. A Bridge Rectifier, also known as a 4-Diode Bridge Rectifier, is an arrangement of four diodes joined together in a bridge circuit configuration that forms a single phase half-wave rectifier or a full-wave rectifier. The CPC7557N is a four-diode, full-wave bridge Rectifier designed for high current, high surge current applications.The CPC7557N is designed for use in applications where high current is required, such as in power supplies, DC/DC converters, and other applications requiring positive, negative, or alternating polarity output voltages. The device can be used to efficiently rectify AC, DC, or other input signals. The maximum current rating of the CPC7557N is 5A, with a peak surge current rating of 10A.The working principle of the CPC7557N is based on the rectification process, where alternating current (AC) is converted into direct current (DC). In a full-wave bridge Rectifier, the four diodes form a bridge circuit that has two input volts, one at each end, and one output volt. When AC is applied to the bridge configuration, each diode will conduct depending on its polarity. When the voltage across each diode reaches its forward-breakdown voltage, which is usually between 0.7v and 1v, it starts conducting and forming a path for current. The forward-breakdown voltage is the voltage required to be applied across the diode in order for it to start conducting.During the positive half cycle of the input AC, the two inversion diodes D3 and D4 start conducting and form a low-resistance path for electric current to get from point A to point B. During the negative half-cycle of the input AC, the two non-inversion diodes D1 and D2 start conducting, similarly forming a low-resistance path for electric current to flow from point A to point B. In both of these cases, the given voltage at each point is the same, and is equal to the peak AC input voltage (Vin). As such, the bridge configuration presents a low resistance to the flow of electrical current, allowing a large amount of current to be drawn.The benefit of using the CPC7557N full-wave bridge Rectifier is that it provides a full-wave rectification of an AC current into a DC current, thus allowing the efficient conversion of AC power into DC power.
