CPC7592BA is an application-specific, highly efficient and low-power cellular baseband processor (CBP) for telecommunications. It is developed for use in the next generation of mobile and wireless access systems such as 3G and 4G. The processor is a highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) device, using the ARM Cortex-A8 core as its processor core. It also supports additional accelerators to achieve maximum performance while minimizing power consumption. CPC7592BA is designed to support multiple standards such as LTE, GMS, WCDMA, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA and WiMAX.
The work of CPC7592BA is based on IP data packet exchange. It consists of 5 main components: the processing unit (PU), the radio access network (RAN), the radio link layer (RLL), the radio resource control (RRC) and the call control (CC). The PU runs the code that controls the signal processing functions and arbitrates between the different protocols and connections. The power efficiency of the processor is enhanced through power gating and dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS). The processor has several control registers that allow the power management system to power down unused components when the processor isn’t in use. This cuts down on the power consumption of the processor and prolongs battery life. The DVFS allows the processor to reduce its power consumption by scaling down the voltage and frequency of its clock during periods of low usage.
