CPT50060 Application Field and Working Principle
CPT50060 is one of the series of rectifier diodes and arrays that is manufactured by CPT, or Central Projects & Technologies. This particular series is a popular choice in applications seeking fast-recovery, low-forward voltage, low voltage drop and low junction capacitance semiconductor diodes.
The CPT50060 belongs to the "Chip-level Design" product family of diodes and arrays which have been designed to meet the needs of high efficiency and aggressive semiconductor applications. It is comprised of a rectifier diode, a switching diode and a Schottky diode. It has a maximum steady-state current of 500 mA at 1.0V, and a maximum power dissipation of 1.2W. The junction temperature range for this device extends from -55°C to +125°C.
In terms of its applications, the CPT50060 is ideal for DC power supply protection, power management, high frequency SMPS, RF, DC/DC and AC/DC converters, and other consumer and industrial applications that require a low-forward voltage drop and fast reverse recovery times. The device also features low leakage current for higher efficiency applications.
The working principle of the CPT50060 rectifier diode and array is fairly simple. In basic terms, it is used to control the flow of energy from one circuit to another. The diode can allow current to flow in one direction, while preventing its flow in the opposite direction. It is essentially a one way gate that allows energy to move from higher voltage to lower voltage.
The device works by controlling the voltage across the circuit which is dependent on a few factors such as its own forward voltage drop, the forward voltage drop of the device in the opposite direction, the temperature of the diode, the temperature of the devices in the circuit, and finally the amount of current being fed into the device.
When the device is not in use, the junction barrier potential is 0V, otherwise known as the voltage barrier. When a voltage is applied to the diode, an electric current is produced and the barrier potential increases in value. This barrier potential is proportional to the product of the applied voltage and the current. As the voltage increases, the barrier potential increases, until it hits the peak reverse voltage of the device.
At this point, no further current can pass through the device, as the barrier potential is too high and the device is said to be in its “on” state. When reverse polarity is applied, the junction barrier potential decreases and the device enters its “off” state. In this state, the diode can no longer pass current and the device is effectively “off”.
By controlling the flow of current, the CPT50060 rectifier diode and array can be used in commercial or industrial applications to protect equipment from excess voltage and current. The device offers protection against short circuits, over-voltage, over-current, under-voltage, and over-temperature conditions, making it an ideal choice for DC power supply protection and other applications.
