CPV364M4F Application Field and Working Principle

CPV364M4F is a type of IGBT module having a chip component from ABB to combine fast switching characteristics with voltage over-load safety. As a part of ABB’s IGBT family, this module is designed for general purpose inverter applications for pulse and induction energy control in variable frequency motor drives and welding machines.CPV364M4F has a rated current of up to 150A, with a repetitive peak reverse voltage of 650V and a low overall threshold voltage of only 0.75V. It is able to operate at the temperature level of -40°C to 125°C. It features a fast switching point of 16µs with a low load range of 15 to 70ns.The underlying physical principle of operation is based on a PN-junction diode. When it is inserted into a circuit, this module conducts current in one direction and blocks current flow in the other direction. The PN-junction diode gives rise to a voltage polarization that results in the formation of depletion region which helps in blocking the flow of carriers of opposite kinds into the region.This module also utilizes an insulated-gate bipolar transistor, which is a three-terminal device, to control its conduction. The control gate of IGBT is used to modulate the current that attempts to pass through the device by regulating the PN-junction barrier junction in a controlled manner. By doing this, CPV364M4F module can not only switch on and off quickly but also regulate the power transmitted through it.

The scope of application of the CPV364M4F module is broad, including but not limited to motors, alternators, compressors and welding machines. In motors, it is used to regulate the amount of current transmitted to the motor. In welding machines, it is used to adjust the temperature level according to material brought into contact with the machine. In compressor-driven applications, it is used to regulate the amount of voltage applied to the compressor.The module is also used in high efficiency conversion applications that require fast switching and a high current capacity. This module is ideal for those applications that require frequent switching of large amounts of current due to its combination of low on-resistance, fast switching speed and high withstand voltage.Furthermore CPV364M4F has an enhanced protection system for inrush current, over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature and output short circuit protection.
