Working Principle of CQ92M

Every Thyristor-TRIACs contains two adjacent and opposite anti-parallel PN junctions. The CQ92M is no exception. Each junction contains a semi-conductor layer, which will be triggered by physical or chemical reaction.As the junction is triggered, the external electric field and vibration stimulates the diffusion of electric charges in the semiconductor layer, thus forming an electric path from gate to main terminal of the Thyristor-TRIACs.

When a sufficient current flows through this formed path, the device will remain in "on" state, regardless of the presence of the applied gate current or not. This is known as "Latching”, which is one of the key properties of the CQ92M.

When the gate current is absent, the "Latch-up" current needs to reach a certain level in order to shut off, which is termed as "Holding Current" of the CQ92M.

At a given current density and variable voltage conditions, the CQ92M can detect and collect both positive and negative current, meaning it can switch electrical charge in both directions, which is another key characteristic of the CQ92M.

CQ92M is protected inside a heat resistant case, which keeps it from damage caused by external environment. Besides, it also provides protection from hazards associated with an overcurrent, thermal runaway and overvoltage condition.
