TVS diodes, or transient voltage surge suppressors, are components that protect electronics from unexpected voltage spikes or transients. The CR6002AC is a 600W, thermally protected, unidirectional surge-suppressors designed to protect any sensitive electronic circuitry from transient peaks of up to 12kV. It is primarily used in automotive systems, residential and industrial power grids, solar converters, and HVAC equipment.
The CR6002AC is a bidirectional surge- suppression diode with two anode attacks connected in a back-to-back arrangement. This allows the device to divert positive and negative surge pulses. The diode has a working voltage of 30 volts, a high speed response time of 150 nanoseconds, and an embedded thermal protection circuit that triggers at temperatures of 150°C. The high surge capacity of 12kV allows the device to handle larger transient peaks.
The diode operates under the principle of reverse-biased voltage clamps. When a voltage spike occurs, the zener diode conducts, converting the AC high-energy voltage pulse to a lower DC voltage level. This both reduces the amount of energy that enters and limits the current, thus protecting the circuit from damage. The clamping voltage is determined by the avalanche voltage and the operating current of the zener diode, so higher currents will lead to higher clamping voltages.
The CR6002AC is an ideal diode for automotive, industrial, and residential applications where transient voltage surge protection is necessary. It can handle high peak currents and offers thermal shutoff protection, making it a reliable and cost-effective choice. The device is easy to install and requires no parameter settings or external components. It is also highly compatible with a wide range of different systems, making it a versatile solution for any surge protection need.
