It is usually applied as the heart of audio systems for consumer audio applications, as it has high performance, small power consumption and flexible configurability.Its working principle can be explained in four main sections. Firstly the interface section. The CS42418 codec features three interface ports: the I2S digital port, the direct digital port, and the analog port. With these three ports, the codec can be connected to both analog and digital audio sources, giving the device a great amount of versatility.Secondly, the CODEC section. This section is responsible for the actual process of decoding/encoding audio signals. The codec comes with a Delta-Sigma modulator/demodulator, which is the core of the system. It converts the incoming digital signal into an analog signal, processes the signal and then goes through a filtering stage so that it can be outputted in the appropriate format.Thirdly the Clock Generator section. This part generates the clock signals needed by the CODEC section to properly operate. It has two types of clock signals, the independent clock generators and the Digital PLLs. The independent clock generators provide the reference clock for the CODEC, while the Digital PLLs are designed to synchronize the CODEC with the incoming signal, providing a stable audio output.Lastly, the Power Management section. The CS42418 codec supports a wide range of power modes, from low power to high performance.
