CS42516-CQZR is a CODEC implemented by Cirrus Logic to meet the high-performance audio processing requirements of today\'s digital and wireless audio systems. This audio CODEC is designed to power a wide range of audio applications, from consumer and automotive devices, to professional audio and multimedia systems. The CS42516-CQZR is comprised of 16-bit digital audio input/output holds and a digital signal processor for performing a wide array of audio processing tasks. It provides both I2S and TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) based interfaces, with single channel, dual-channel, or four channel operation. The device also has a flexible analog input/output architecture, allowing for stereophonic, mono, 5.1 or 7.1, or even 3-D surround-sound encoding.
The CS42516-CQZR is designed to support a wide array of sampling rates, ranging from 8 kHz to 48 kHz, with flexible Fs performance selectable via I2C. In addition, the device includes several flexible digital signal processing (DSP) blocks for audio equalization, noise reduction, dynamic range compression, and other signal processing tasks. It also includes an audio compression engine which provides support for a variety of audio compression formats, such as MP3, AAC, ALAC, and WMA.
The CS42516-CQZR also includes a powerful audio boosting circuit, which can add up to 6dB of gain to the output signal, allowing for increased system headroom. This can be used to match the dynamic range of the original signal, or to output loud, clean, and highly intelligible audio. The device also includes an integrated 2nd-order, low-pass filter with adjustable cutoff frequency, allowing for customization of the device’s output.
