The CS8161YTHA5 is a high voltage monolithic linear regulator with a very low dropout voltage (VDRO) and fast transient response. It is designed primarily for computer and communication applications, but can also be used in other demanding applications requiring low noise, low ripple and fast transient response.

Working principle

The CS8161YTHA5 is a versatile, high voltage monolithic linear regulator with excellent transient response and low noise. It achieves very low dropout voltage (VDRO) (<50mV @ 180mA) and fast transient response (6us) by its advanced circuit design, allowing it to effectively regulate output voltages from as low as 1.8V to 28V. The regulator can supply a maximum output current of 1A and offers a wide input voltage range of 7V–37V.

The device offers an adjustable output voltage by using an external resistor divider, and features a prebias supply capability and an output voltage trim PIN to quickly match receiver accuracy. Other features include an internal soft-start circuit to reduce inrush current during start-up, and a thermal shutdown circuit to protect the device against thermal overload.
