CY2302SXC-1 is an integrated frequency synthesizer and oscillator (FSO) developed by Cypress Semiconductor. It is a highly integrated frequency synthesizer and oscillator solution in a single package, featuring an integrated Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) with an analog-controlled frequency in the range of 2.1 GHz to 2.9 GHz. It is suitable for wide range communications, RFID, Bluetooth, LTE, and Wi-Fi applications. This integrated FSO solution integrates multiple crystal oscillators and offers fast frequency settling time from startup or from changing mode or from hopping between channels. Assuming it is connected to a crystal on a printed circuit board (PCB), the setting of the final frequency is easily programmed via software, etc. Additionally, it features an output enable pin to enable/disable the output signal, power down mode, and programmable VCO band. The selectable output levels are 10 dBm, 3 dBm, 0 dBm, and -3 dBm.The integrated FSO uses a two-stage frequency synthesizer. The two stages of the frequency synthesizer are an external Divider and an Internal Divider. The External Divider is connected to the External Clock in and is a programmable divider with a range from 1 to 16. The Internal Divider is connected to the VCO and is also a programmable divider with a range from 1 to 40. The output of the Internal Divider is the Numerically Controlled Oscillator (NCO).The VCO is fed with a high frequency clock from the output of the Internal Divider. The VCO voltage control is from an onboard or external voltage control input. The frequency range of the VCO is from 2.1 GHz to 2.9 GHz, which covers almost any operating frequency.A phase detector and an LPF are used to track the difference between the reference and the VCO frequencies. When these two frequencies become equal, the LPF static voltage output will stabilize. This static voltage is used to control the VCO architecture to reach the exact output frequency. The lock detect circuit is a comparator that senses when the phase error signal is minimized, which happens when the NCO, external reference, and VCO frequencies reach a certain threshold. This allows the CY2302SXC-1 to achieve a lock in a short amount of time.Finally, the output stage of this integrated FSO is the output drive stage which is designed to steer the output of the chip. The size of the drive is selectable via software, according to the required output level, which can be 10 dBm, 3 dBm, 0 dBm and -3 dBm.The CY2302SXC-1 is an ideal device for system integrated mobile, wireless, and communication applications, providing an integrated frequency synthesizer, an oscillator, and a powerful output stage, all in a single package.
