CY2309CSXI-1T is a integrated circuit which is able to generate a highly accurate clock with a variety of options to suit the application. The device can simultaneously generate an integer number of frequencies from a reference frequency of CLKI, 0 to 4 outputs and a CLKMASTER output which can be pre-programmed for clock duty cycle and skew control. The device features an internal Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) that can be programmed with a divider and integer multiplier to generate the desired output frequencies.

Application Field

The CY2309CSXI-1T is a highly accurate clock generator that can be used in various applications such as mobile phones, cable television systems, servers, storage systems, network switches, routers, embedded systems, and digital cameras. It can also be used for clock synchronization and time synchronization in communication networking systems. The device can be used for applications that require precision timing and high frequency accuracy such as frequency hopping, spreading, pulse shaping, and synchronization.

Working Principle

The CY2309CSXI-1T uses an internal Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) to generate output clocks. The VCO, in combination with a programmable divide-by-N and multiplier, can be used to generate multiple output clocks with different phase and duty cycle relationships. The phase and duty cycle adjustments of the output clocks are controlled by loading the same values in all of the programmable dividers, or using different values for each of the dividers. The VCO frequency is then adjusted to ensure excellent frequency accuracy of the output clocks. In addition to the clock outputs, the device also provides an enable/disable and reset functions which can be used to control the outputs and reset the internal counters.The CY2309CSXI-1T supports four different clock outputs named CLK0-3. Each of these clock outputs has configurable duty cycle settings to adjust the high and low time of the clock in a range of 0-100 %. Furthermore, skew adjustment feature is also provided which can be used to adjust the phase relationship between any of the four outputs. The CLK0-3 outputs can be used as source clocks for other devices in the system such as frequency synthesizers, PLLs and microcontrollers.

Frequency Synthesis

The CY2309CSXI-1T also has a built-in frequency synthesizer which can be used to generate frequencies as high as 400MHz using an input reference clock frequency as low as 3MHz. The device can also synthesize frequencies up to 700MHz with an input reference clock frequency of 10MHz. The frequency synthesis is done by selecting the output frequency and preloading the VCO control voltage in the internal registers. The output frequency can be set in steps of 1MHz up to 100MHz, in steps of 10MHz up to 400MHz and in steps of 50MHz up to 700MHz. In addition to synthesizing frequencies, the device can also be used to generate non-integer multiples of the reference frequency.The CY2309CSXI-1T has integrated programmable dividers and multipliers to generate highly precise and accurate output clocks. The dividers can be programmed to divide or skip counts of the reference frequency to generate output frequencies that are either higher or lower than the reference frequency. The multipliers can be used to generate integer or non-integer multiples of the reference frequency. In addition to controlling frequency via dividers and multipliers, the device also includes output control registers which can be used to control the duty cycles and phase relationships of the output clocks. Other features include an enable/disable function, skew adjustment and a reset function.In summary, the CY2309CSXI-1T is highly capable and accurate clock generator that is suited for wide variety of applications.
