The CY2308ESXC-3 is a high-performance clock synthesizer for demanding applications in multiple markets. It combines a low cost, low-power PLL with a robust, wide-range crystal oscillator to provide a clock solution with low cost and excellent clock performance.

The CY2308ESXC-3 clock synthesizer is designed to provide an ultra-low jitter output and to allow designers to customize their designs to meet the most demanding performance needs. It is available in a 14-pin SOIC package and provides multiple output frequencies with very low jitter.
The working principle of this clock synthesizer is based on the PLL architecture. The PLL is the building block for any clock synthesis system and the CY2308ESXC-3 uses it to bring about the output frequency synthesis. The PLL system comprises of four components, being a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO), a loop filter, a phase detector and a divider. The current control voltage applied to the VCO will determine the frequency of the VCO output, which is then compared to the reference frequency given by the crystal oscillator driving the system.
The phase detector then compares the two input frequencies to determine the phase difference between them and adjust the control voltage going to the VCO accordingly. The loop filter is used to filter out the high frequency components of the error signal produced by the phase detector and provides a low-pass filtered version, which is then applied to the VCO. Finally, the divider is used to divide the output from the VCO to produce the desired output frequency.
