The CY2308ZXC-1HT is a clock generator, phase-locked loop (PLL) and frequency synthesizer for high speed clock and data recovery applications. It is designed to generate a high accuracy clock from an input reference or from a data signal.
The CY2308ZXC-1HT operates in two modes: free running and locked. In free running mode, it generates an output clock from an input reference clock. The output frequency and duty cycle can be programmed with a pair of 8-bit register. The output frequency is adjustable up to 4GHz in free running mode.
In locked mode, the CY2308ZXC-1HT locks to the data transitions of an input data signal. The maximum data rate is 25 Gbps and the maximum output clock frequency is 4 GHz. A frequency synthesizer is included to any output data rate up to 3 GHz.
The CY2308ZXC-1HT is suitable for high speed clock recovery applications such as serializer/deserializer (SerDes), optical networking, radar, and radio communication systems. It is also suitable for design with high speed FPGA, data converters and DDR3/4 memory.
The CY2308ZXC-1HT operates from a 1.8V to 3.3V single supply. The device is highly integrated, with on-chip voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) for integer and fractional PLL modes. It also includes a frequency divider and a phase-frequency detector (PFD) for a complete PLL. The PLL loop bandwidth can be programmed up to 1MHz.
The CY2308ZXC-1HT also has an integrated spread-spectrum clocks generator, which allows for a spreading of the output frequency over a range of frequencies to reduce the power spectral density at a given frequency. This feature is used to reduce radiated EMI and low profile desig.
The CY2308ZXC-1HT timing parameters are programmable via an I2C interface. The device includes a serial control interface to control the internal timing parameters. Timing parameters include output frequency, output duty-cycle, PLL loop filter gain and bandwidth.
The CY2308ZXC-1HT also features a power-on-reset pin which ensures that the device is in a known state when the power is turned on. The on-chip power-on-reset circuit also prevents start-up glitches on the output.
In addition, the device also includes two internal regulators for two power domains. The power domains can be programmed separately for optimal power savings. The supply voltage can be adjusted to optimize performance for different frequencies.
