The CY3683, from Cypress Semiconductor, is a single chip USB hub controller that integrates a 4-port USB Hub with advanced features. This versatile and easy to use device includes a full-speed and low-speed USB host controller to connect to the main USB host, a bus powered 4-port USB hub controller, integrated transceiver, full-speed and low-speed link controllers, and on-chip voltage and current monitoring.

The CY3683 is designed to connect to the main USB host via the dedicated downstream port, and to the four downstream USB ports by a low-speed and full-speed upstream hub connection. The controlling microprocessor can be interfaced to the on-chip interconnect controller which enables it to control and monitor the USB hub. This ensures power management of each USB port and monitoring of current and voltage on the downstream ports, and is compliant with both USB 2.0 and 1.1 specifications.

The CY3683 versatile USB hub controller can be used in various applications such as USB device charging, USB storage devices, and digital video and audio streaming. This is done through the port enable and disable interface in the controller’s control registers.
