CY7B951-SXIT is an integrated single port 10/100 Network Physical Layer transceiver designed for optical networking applications and compliance to IEEE 802.3u 25 Mbps and 100 Mbps standards. It features a single, low pin count and low power 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet port for connection to any 10Base-T/100Base-TX media. The IC also includes all of the analog PHY and digital media access control (MAC) logic to implement a complete Ethernet interface. It is available in commercial, industrial, and extended temperature ranges and is also offered with selectable speeds.The CY7B951-SXIT transceiver offers various features such as on-chip data-rate detection, low power dissipation, reduced EMI and decoupling for easier system operation. This transceiver is designed to withstand voltage swings, temperature changes, and other environmental conditions and is intended for use in IEEE 802.3u-compliant Ethernet applications.The CY7B951-SXIT transceiver consists of a serializer-deserializer (SerDes), line drivers, Digital Interchip Media-independent Interface (DMII) and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). It is capable of data speeds up to 100 Mbps with a wide operating temperature range. Additionally, the transceiver is capable of auto-negotiation with other nodes on the network to select the optimal data rate and data format.The Serializer-deserializer (SerDes) is the core component of the device, allowing the data transmitted and received from the line driver to be serialized by the SerDes. The SerDes encodes the data for transmission and provides synchronization for received data. It also functions as a low-level transceiver for the incoming and outgoing signals. The transmission rate of the SerDes is typically about double the transmission rate of the line driver. The SerDes converts the incoming digital signals from the line driver into serial data and encodes it for transmission.The line driver transmits and receives digital signals over the physical media. It operates in two modes; half-duplex, which allows only one node to transmit and receive data at any given time; and full-duplex, which allows simultaneous data transmission and reception. The type of line driver used depends on the type of cable media used. For example, a twisted-pair line driver is used for Category 5 UTP (Unshielded Twisted-Pair) cables and a shielded twisted-pair line driver is used for shielded cables.The Digital Interchip Media-independent Interface (DMII) is responsible for interface control and data flow. It is used to provide an interface between the PHY and MAC devices. The DMII consists of of two separate logic devices; the MDIO (Media Dependent Interface) and the PAR (Port Arbiter) devices. The MDIO device is used to configure the PHY registers and to control the data flow between the PHY and the MAC. The PAR device is responsible for managing the data transactions within the PHY.The Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) contains all the components necessary to implement a complete Ethernet interface. The ASIC is responsible for controlling the line drivers, the SerDes and encoding/decoding of data.
