This intrinsic material is made of P-type and N-type semiconductor materials which are placed adjacent to one another and form a PN junction. When forward bias is applied to the PN junction, majority carriers (holes at the P-type material side, and electrons at the N-type material side) are injected across the junction and recombination takes place by donor-acceptor pairs, and thus, charge carrier go through the device.In the case of reverse bias, the electric field created will cause minority carriers located at the P-type side to start crossing the PN junction in the opposite direction and recombine with the majority carriers at the N-type side. As the voltage increases beyond a certain point, the electric field get stronger, and this will cause more minority carriers to flow across the PN junction and will, in turn, cause more recombination and thus, reduce the voltage across the PN junction. This is the Zener breakdown voltage, and the device will no longer allow current to exceed this breakdown voltage.The CZRA5925B-G single zener diode has many advantages over other diodes that make it a popular component for a variety of applications.
