Snap Action Switches

Snap action switches are devices designed to transfer power or indicate when certain pre-set conditions are met. The snap action mechanism, which is usually referred to as a "snap switch", allows the switch contact to snap open or closed rapidly. This provides a fast, consistent reaction to the application field, making them especially useful in applications where product safety, dependability, and/or reliability are considerations.

D2JW-01K11-MD Application Field and Working Principle

The D2JW-01K11-MD is a subminiature snap action switch, with extremely low contact resistance, a high switching power and an exceptional number of mechanical cycles. The subminiature type allows the switch to fit into an area where space is a premium. The switch is normally operated by a plunger, lever, or rocker for manual actuation, with a standard operation force of 0.05 N (5 gf). The D2JW-01K11-MD is also available with a higher operation force of 0.15 N (15 gf). This increased force can be beneficial in controlling the number of cycles that the switch is actuated.

The working principle of the D2JW-01K11-MD is simple. An actuator, a spring, and a contact are all present within the switch. The actuator is operated, the spring is compressed, and the contact is engaged creating an electrical connection. The spring then returns to its uncompressed position, releasing the contact.

The low contact resistance and high switching power makes the D2JW-01K11-MD an ideal choice in automotive, home appliance, and lighting applications. It is commonly used in applications such as driving current, interruption of direct current, reversing the direction of current, indicating access to a room or compartment, indicating a door or gate has been opened or closed, and indicating the presence of a foreign object in a machine.
