Digital-to-analog converters (DACs) take digital signals and convert them into analog output signals. The DAC5681EVM is an evaluation module from Texas Instruments that enables users to easily customize, evaluate, and design with the DAC5681 Encode/Decode IC. The DAC5681EVM Board can support a variety of applications in the industrial control, medical device, audio/visual, and embedded markets.The DAC5681 Encode/Decode IC is an 8-channel, low-power, LVDS (low-volts differential signaling) analog-to-digital (A/D) converter intended for industrial applications. It has low overall power consumption of 1.8W at the 4.5V operating voltage. It can be used to convert analog signals into digital signals as well as to output digital signals as analog signals.In order to convert an analog signal to a digital signal, the device must first be calibrated. The DAC5681EVM Board simplifies this process by equipping it with a calibration switch and a calibration voltage input. The calibration switch enables the user to switch between the linear and the non-linear mode of calibration for different purposes. After calibration is complete, the user can adjust the gains and offsets in order to precisely tune the device for the required signals.When the device is ready to output digital signals as analog signals, the user can configure the output buffer. The output buffer is configurable independently for each DAC, and it can provide gains of between 0 to 7dB. It also features a slew rate control, which can be used to limit the rate of change of the DAC output voltage and provide a smoother transition between analog and digital stages.The performance of the DAC5681EVM Board can further be enhanced with the configurable built-in filters.
