Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) encompasses products for converting digital signals into analog signals for various analog applications. The DAC716P is a high-performance, cost-effective, 12-bit, 8-channel digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed to meet a variety of low-voltage requirements. It offers resolution of 12-bits, allowing the user to have better performance from their systems at a fraction of the time and cost.The DAC716P supports a wide range of applications for audio and video processing, medical, communications, consumer, automotive, and industrial applications. It allows the user to transmit real-world analog signals over long distances in an efficient manner. Furthermore, its lower power consumption and reduced pin count are ideal for applications which require robust performance.The DAC716P is composed of two main components: the converters and the control register. The digital converter converts digital words into analog signals while the control register contains various bits of information that can control the conversion process. The DAC716P features a fully programmable digital-to-analog converter, allowing for high precision conversion of digital signals into analog signals up to 24-bits of resolution. It also offers a variety of interface options including 3-wire SPI, I2C, and GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output).When implementing the DAC716P into an application, the user must first select a reference voltage (Vref) to be used for the conversion process. The DAC716P has two reference pins that allow the user to select either a single voltage (Vref1) or dual voltages (Vref1/Vref2). The former is used when the analog output needs to be scaled to fit the required parameters, while the latter allows the user to shift the analog output. The next step is to select an input format, either Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) or Inter Integrated Circuit (I2C). Once both of these parameters have been determined, the user can begin programming the converter for both the data format and the configuration of the digital-to-analog converter. The DAC716P is able to convert signals in both single-ended and differential formats. As for the single-ended format, the DAC716P will convert each digital word (MSB and LSB) into a single-ended voltage. As for the differential format, the DAC716P will convert each digital word (MSB and LSB) into both a differential plus (V+) and a differential minus (V-) voltage. The user can choose to output the analog signal in either unipolar (+Vs to 0V) or bipolar (+Vs to -Vs) formats. Finally, the user can enable the “ latch enable” feature to ensure that the data is properly latched onto the output.In summary, the DAC716P is an advanced, low-power, precision analog-to-digital converter ideal for many applications.
