The DAC7617U/1KG4 Data Acquisition – Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) is a high-performance, microprocessor-controlled, wideband range digital-to-analog conversion solution that is compact, yet powerful and easy to use. It offers an exceptional performance level, with features including high-resolution analog and digital input/output, a fast switching time, and low noise. The DAC is equipped with a wide range of features to meet a variety of system design challenges, from high throughput and large dynamic range to multi-channel, multi-channel control and monitoring.

The DAC7617U/1KG4 provides 16-bit resolution and can be used to convert digital data from up to 32 input channels. It is designed to accommodate both high-resolution (14 bits or higher) and low-resolution (8 bits or lower) data. The figure below shows the DAC’s full 16-bit resolution with all 32 channels enabled.

This level of resolution allows for crisp, high-quality audio output, while low-frequency data is captured with low distortion using a proprietary, time-domain digital-to-analog conversion scheme. Moreover, the DAC7617U/1KG4 is capable of seamlessly handling input signals in multiple formats, such as 8- and 16-bit pulse-code modulation (PCM) and Manchester coding.

In addition to its digital-to-analog conversion capabilities, the DAC7617U/1KG4 also supports an extensive set of advanced features that make it an ideal platform for data acquisition and audio/video processing applications. These include programmable control registers, multiplexers, M/N/A and Bandwidth/Frequency limiters, variable gain amplifiers (VGAs) and variable memory and timing, among others. The DAC also supports a variety of serial and parallel buses, including Inter-IC (I2C), Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Universal Serial Bus (USB) and the low power serial port (LPSP). The device also comes with a comprehensive suite of software development tools, including a software development kit (SDK), graphic user interface (GUI), VGA and serial drivers and support for multiple third-party development platforms, such as Altera NIOS, WebKit and LabView, as well as example code.
