Data Acquisition – Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) is a technology which enables conversion of a digital data to an analog signal. The DAC8411IDCKR is a two-channel, 8-bit buffered Voltage Out Digital-to-Analog converter. It features an on-chip 2.5V voltage reference and a voltage output range of -2.25V to +2.25V. It has a guaranteed monotonicity over temperature and operating conditions and low distortion characterized by 12 bits of linearity.
The DAC8411IDCKR is widely used in such applications as telecommunications, instrumentation, medical and industrial control. It provides improved precision, enhanced performance and noise immunity in critical applications. It is well suited for designs that require low power consumption, low voltage operation and a simple single-supply configuration.
The DAC8411IDCKR’s output can be adjusted from 0V to 4V by varying the input digital code. The DAC8411IDCKR operates with a power supply of 2.7V to 5.5V for both the logic and DAC voltage supply. With a reduced power supply requirement of 1.8V the device can provide a maximum output current of 6mA. The device’s flexible power range and buffered outputs facilitate operation in any system protocol where output performance is critical.
The DAC8411IDCKR is also compatible with all popular microcontrollers and microcontrollers with serial interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and UART. The DAC8411IDCKR works on the principle of successive approximation. The digital code applied to an input port represents the voltage output of the DAC. The device uses the digital code to convert the analog voltage level into digital code. This is done by comparing the voltage at the output to a reference voltage with the help of a comparator. The comparator generates two digital output signals; one signals that the output voltage is above the reference voltage and the other signals that the output voltage is below the reference voltage. The successive approximation register (SAR) interprets the comparator’s output into the digital value and subsequently updates the DAC’s voltage output.
