Data Acquisition - Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) convert digital signals to analog signals for presentation of real-world signals. The DAC8718SRGZT is a superbly integrated monolithic device from Texas Instruments (TI). This device requires only the addition of two external components for the complete 8-channel 18-bit conversion.This device is characterized for operation over the temperature range from 40°C to 85°C. The DAC8718SRGZT has a high output drive current capability, up to 16mA at ± 5V, which ensures good voltage swings with long cable runs and a high output update rate of 280kHz for robust, real-time data acquisition. The DAC8718SRGZT is designed to have extremely high accuracy, with excellent linearity, monotonicity and an integrated filtering feature that rejects unwanted noise, glitches and jitter.The device incorporates a full, 18-bit digital-to-analog converter and four sample-and-hold amplifiers with 5V common-mode capability, allowing the user to perform simultaneous data acquisitions directly from digital sources. The DAC8718SRGZT provides an SPI interface that allows the user to select the desired mode of operation, with both software and hardware control, and to adjust the DAC’s full-scale range accordingly.The DAC8718SRGZT’s advanced design architecture and circuitry facilitates its efficient use for a broad range of applications. For example, the device is suitable for high-resolution applications such as industrial monitoring systems, graphics applications and process control sensors, as well as for connection to analog filters and other analog circuits. Additionally, the device is applicable in the automotive, medical imaging, and avionics fields where great accuracy and precision are required.The DAC8718SRGZT’s working principle is based on the transfer of digital information into the device, followed by an automatic conversion of the digital values into related analog signals. The digital information is first decoded and then applied to the DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) where the digital values are converted into analog output signals. The output signals from the DAC are then amplified and buffered in order to provide the most accurate analog output signals.
